Impawsible Run

What is it?
Impawsible Run is the name I've given to me running a marathon.  It was inspired by the name of my company, Impawsible Pups, and by the fact that I train with my dog, Cody.  I recently signed up for my very first marathon.  I am going to run it as a way to raise money for Henrico Humane Society.

When is it?
Training begins June 2, 2012, and the actual marathon is November 10, 2012.

What does Henrico Humane Society do?
Henrico Humane Society (HHS) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization incorporated in 1991 to address the enormous number of homeless animals in the greater Richmond area. HHS is run entirely by volunteers and has no paid staff. The organization relies upon donations, adoption fees, and fund-raising efforts to support its programs.  Most of the animals in HHS are fostered in homes so we are able to learn about the needs of each individual animal.  Unfortunately, there are not enough fosters in this world!

How much are you hoping to raise?
I'd like to raise $100 for each mile I run.  That means I'll raise $2,620.

Why should I donate?
Well, it would make me really happy!  In all seriousness, though, HHS is a really great organization.  The men and women who dedicate their time work extremely hard to make sure each animal is well take care of.  Since there are more homeless dogs and cats than there are foster parents, sometimes a foster home will have 2, 3, 4, or more dogs / cats in their home.  Each one of these dogs needs to be fed, groomed, given preventative care, and vetted.  While it would be great if all fosters could pay for these things on their own, it's not a realistic expectation.  The amount I am trying to raise, $2,620, would cover only a fraction of the cost of one month's bill.

How can I donate?
To donate specifically to Impawsible Run, the easiest thing to do would be to click the ChipIn button on the side bar of this blog.  Otherwise, you can also visit my ChipIn web page at http://impawsiblepups.chipin.com/henrico-humane-society.

Where can I follow your progress?
Simply follow this blog!  I'll be posting regular updates on my progress in running and in fundraising once training starts in June.  I will also post a few, shorter updates on the ChipIn web page.

I can't afford to donate money, but is there another way I could help?
Of course there is!  Henrico Humane could always use donations of food, leashes, treats, or toys.  For further involvement, you could consider fostering a dog (or two), or you could see about volunteering at adoption stand each weekend.  Otherwise, simply spread the word!  Let other people know what we're trying to do and why we're trying to do it.
